A 17-year-old pirate captain intentionally allows herself to get captured by enemy pirates in this thrilling YA adventure. Sent on a mission to retrieve an ancient hidden map—the key to a legendary treasure trove—seventeen-year-old pirate captain Alosa deliberately allows herself to be captured by her enemies, giving her the perfect opportunity to search their ship. More than a match for the ruthless pirate crew, Alosa has only one thing standing between her and the map: her captor, the unexpectedly clever and unfairly attractive first mate, Riden. But not to worry, for Alosa has a few tricks up her sleeve, and no lone pirate can stop the Daughter of the Pirate King. Debut author Tricia Levenseller blends action, adventure, romance, and a little bit of magic into a thrilling YA pirate tale.
I received an ARC of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. None of my thoughts are altered by this.

Ahhhh pirates! I gotta admit, I don't read a lot of books with pirates. Sure, there is the occasional book here and there about pirates but I don't read about pirates on the regular. I should though because pirates definitely make for interesting stories. An example: Daughter of the Pirate King (that segway oh my gosh). I was very interested in this story when I read the synopsis and I am so glad it did not disappoint because the storyline the synopsis was giving me was definitely something that I wanted to read about. If you're looking for a pirate book I would definitely recommend Daughter of the Pirate King.

One of the things that I loved about this book were the characters, especially the females. Typically, pirates are seen as men who are large and dirty and drunk but nOoOPpe, Levenseller's characters come in and stab that stereotype. The main character, Alosa (I love her name), is so badass and I loved reading about her getting herself out of situations, danger, and just trying to complete her mission. And although Daughter of the Pirate King doesn't show much of it, Alosa's crew for her ship are also a group of girls I highly admire. If it's anything I am looking forward to in the next book, it's getting to read more about the girls in Alosa's crew.

The world that Levenseller has created is so cool. The book is about pirates, yes, but pirates in a really interesting fantasy world. I think the author did just enough world building to get through with the first book but I definitely hope that in the next book, we get to read more about the world because I am so interested in more of what the world has.

Okay, the only tiny tiny problem I had with this book was the fact that despite all the precautions Alosa took in her mission, I thought at a few moments she got a bit careless in what she was doing. And eventually, those little careless mistakes did lead to not so positive things. This doesn't really change my opinion on the book, I still loved it, but it was definitely something I want to bring up.

Daughter of the Pirate King is a book I would definitely look into if you're looking for a book with a great fantasy world, pirates, badass female characters, and suspense. I can't wait for the next book to Daughter of the Pirate King and if you read this book, I hope you enjoy it!
